Folkemord og propaganda

Hva får mennesker til å forsøke å utslette et helt folkeslag? Under folkemordet i Rwanda i 1994 ble radio og aviser brukt som redskap for å spre hatefull propaganda til befolkningen. 800 000 mennesker ble drept i løpet av 100 dager. I forbindelse med oppsetningen av forestillingen «Hate Radio», arrangerer Black Box Teater og Internasjonale Reportere en konferanse om medienes rolle under folkemord.

Speakers:

14.00: Dr. Charles Mironko
Dr. Mironko will talk about the role of the media during the Rwandan genocide

14.30: Merdijana Sadovic
Merdijana Sadovic is the Regional Director for Western Balkans at the Institute for War an Peace Reaserch. She was a field producer for ABC News and their Sarajevo bureau chief from 1995 till 2004,
covering the war in Bosnia, the deployment of NATO troops and
post-war reconstruction.

15.00: Ingjerd Brakstad
Brakstad i a Ph.D. fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She has done research on how Norwegian media has portrayed the genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda.
She will lecture about the results of her research.

16.00: Panel discussion
The three speakers will be joined by Diogène Ntarindwa, actor in the play Hate Radio and former member of Rwanda Patriotic Front. A moderator will interview the participants.
There will also be questions from the audience.
