“I want my shows to sit with people for a long time. Some people hate my performances and are so angered by them, and then six months later they write me an email saying that it’s changed their life. I want to make stuff that’s hard to untangle; stuff that asks hard questions and sits with you for awhile. Stuff that maybe audiences don’t always understand right away. Some people call that shocking, and that’s totally okay with me.” Ann Liv Young, Ravlin Magazine

In her new work Ann Liv Young explores the history of Antigone, focusing on the 1948 version by Bertolt Brecht, which premiered in Chur and afterwards was staged in Zurich. Thereby she shows how our current political climate is reflected in Brecht’s questions about individual and collective scope for taking action in the face of fascism. Young questions the role, relationship, and responsibility of the individual vis-à-vis the state: What can an individual do?
