The Swedish choreographer Mårten Spångberg's recent premiere “La Substance, but in English” will for the first time be performed as an oral exploration. Without explaining or exemplifying Spångberg will present an autonomous version attempting, to through discourse and speech open the hypnotic landscape of “La Substance…”.
A landscape where the baroque meets pop, the superficial too much make-up, and where reflection collapses into existence. A network inhabited by Diet Coke, zombies, melting and foam, where life is fading and being shining bright like a diamond, where attention is no matter what and no one needs to be busy. In “La Substance, word by word” the spectator is left to be with herself yet something is there and that something is also ok.
Mårten Spångberg is choreographer living and working in Stockholm. His interest is in choreography as an expanded practice something that he has explored through a number of expressions and disciplines. Together with Tor Lindstrand he worked as International Festival (2004-2010) a collaboration the turned both performance and choreography inside out. He has organised and curated festival and exhibition and is an asked for teacher. 2008-2012 he was the director of the MA program in choreography at DOCH. In 2006 he initiated the network organisation Impex that among other things produced The Swedish Dance History. In 2011 he published his first book “Spangbergianism".
