Voice to Voice is an interdisciplinary art project by artist and curator Jingyi Wang. The project encompasses everything from video installation and live performances to architectural design, and explores how humans tend to evaluate and define their self-worth based on their work. Wang travelled in Norway and China with a specially designed interview pavilion to meet and speak with individuals. Documentation from these journeys is presented in this exhibition.
The project poses questions such as: How does work influence our sense of value? How is work defined through capital and social status today? And with the rise of AI, which is taking over people’s jobs in increasingly many areas – how do we determine human worth beyond the narrow framework of production and consumption?
Voice to Voice is the third part of Wang's Performative Event Series: Value Trilogy. The two preceding works were Post Capitalistic Auction – a performative art auction that premiered at BIT in 2018 – and JUDGE ME – a performative court trial that questioned how we value artworks and the people who created them, shown at METEOR in Bergen in 2021.
