The Ship is a series of productions created in dialogue with selected sites over the course of several years. The Ship and the journey represent hope of survival, a new land and a new future. Working with technology, nature and cultural imprints, the production pivots on the theme of hubris.
Drifting with the current, De Utvalgte let themselves be marked by the places they visit. First stop was Maléraques in France, where they visited the gods with mythology researcher Enrique Pardo. Then, inspired by the alternative lifestyle of the gods, they ventured into the forest in Tysse in Fjaler, where they made the performance Auka Røynd. In Greenland, the northern lights glimmered above the residential building Block 1 while De Utvalgte performed Bærum – Nuuk, a performance based on tourist brochures and myths about Greenland.
After a brief stopover in Oslo at Black Box teater on March 4, The Ship heads to the dunes on the island of Terschelling in the Netherlands before returning to Oslo and Ultima Contemporary Music Festival in September 2018.
