Odalen is a monologue written and performed by Eirik Willyson together with musician Martin Langlie. The performance is a kind of spatial audiobook, and the text forms part of Willyson's novel of the same title.
The narrator in Odalen has written a book he refuses to publish. He has written a story about a young couple who put their relationship on hold in order to realize their full potential on their own terms. The audience is invited into the novel and into the narrator's life as it appeared during the years of the writing process. Along the way, new stories and potential novels emerge.
"I only believe what is made up, what I know is not true. I don't believe in an afterlife and I don't believe in this one either. I don't believe what I see and hear. I have no faith in the future. I don't believe in descendants. I don't believe in my relatives. I don't believe people telling me what it was like to live in the past. But as soon as I sense they're lying, something happens: I start paying attention."
Eirik Willyson is a dramatis, author and performing artist and a part of the theater duo Kristinsdottir / Willyson. Martin Langlie is a composer and musician and a member of the theater company Susie Wang and the band Valkyrien.
The performance lasts for 2 hours and 15 minutes. There will be two intermissions and a bar on stage.
