Filmvisning: 'Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010)'
Extended program Film screening
English subtitles
Apichatpong Weerasethakul has created a beautiful and mysterious film about the terminally ill Boonmee. Boonmee spends his last days in the country with his loved ones, where he meets the ghosts of his deceased wife and son – but not in human form.
Weerasethakul's film is rooted in Southeast Asian notions of death – where Buddhist reincarnation and Thai storytelling become a part of the narrative. Ceremonies and mythology intertwine the living and the dead, the natural and the supernatural as well as the past and present.
The film is presented in relation to Black Box teater’s program this October, where death is a highlighted theme.
The screening is organized in collaboration with Vega Scene.
