Performances, conversations, seminars, festival club ++
Oslo Internasjonale Teaterfestival has been the pulsing heart of Black Box teater’s spring season since 2013. Daring and surprising, it has become an annual rendez-vous for performing arts in Oslo in March. Artists of different generations from around the world, both familiar names and newcomers, gather for eleven vibrating days of live art experiences, including several Norwegian premieres. By crossing artistic practices, these artists open up a stimulating dialogue between performing arts, music and visual arts, challenging what the art experience can be.
This year’s festival will be different than the previous ones. The preparation of Oslo Internasjonale Teaterfestival 2021 takes place in a very uncertain context – but one thing is certain: the festival will happen! It will be a special edition, with a different format and smaller scale. The festival will unfold in spaces that are still accessible, with site-specific and outdoor projects, new modes of sharing as well as a digital program. Hopefully, indoor cultural events will be allowed again in time for the festival. Together with the artists, we work with several scenarios, depending on what restrictions we must stick to regarding indoor events in mid-March.
Evolving around the question “at present time, what do we need most?”, this edition is conceived together with various contributors and guest curators. In this moment of forced isolation, we need more than ever to rely on the common, on co-construction and on trusting each other.
We have subtitled the festival “11 days of Live Art experiences” to emphasize that it is not only theater in its traditional sense being shown, but a wide range of live arts, performances, installations, seminars and talks.
We wish you a warm welcome to Oslo Internasjonale Teaterfestival 2021!
